Excerpt

This talk addresses relationship between embedded developers and the Linux community

Description

The “Embedded Systems track” title says: “Linux is embedded in everything, but where are the developers?”
I’d like to try answering this question from point of view of small Linux developer in small embedded company.

Indeed, there are quite a few companies that “do the right thing” and work hard to make their patches hit the mainline. However, the number of embedded developers involved in open source projects is small relatively to the number of devices that run Linux.

I’ll cover the process of embedded device development, constraints the embedded developers have and will try to analyze reasons for low number of contributions from the embedded world to open source.
