The Gummiboot Boot Loader

Abstract

Boot loaders don’t have to be complicated programs embedding scripting languages and supporting plug-ins. Gummiboot is a minimal boot loader for EFI systems, that relies on as much standard EFI functionality as possible, exposing a user-friendly UI with very little code. In this session we want to discuss the current state of the project, what is still missing and where we want to take it. We’ll also give a quick demo. Finally we will discuss how Gummiboot integrates with Linux by passing performance data and implementing the Boot Loader Spec.

Biography

Harald Hoyer joined the Linux community in 1996. His first kernel patch was the module ip_masq_quake in 1997, followed by boot support for md raid devices. He joined Red Hat in July of 1999, working on projects ranging from udev, network daemons and CD recording packages to creating configuration tools, extending smolt and writing python interfaces. Lately he created a cross distribution initramfs generator called dracut.
