OVS: from Open vSwitch to Open network Virtualization System
This proposal has been accepted as a session.
One Line Summary
Explore ways to extend and merge existing networking mechanisms to address the needs of virtual network infrastructure
Abstract
Today’s virtual network infrastructure solutions are flow based and not dynamically extensible. To deliver on the promise of SDN, network functions need to be capable of being delivered in the same automated and self-service manner as virtual machines. To meet this need networks require a greater degree of flexibility that will only come with an extensible dataplane.
In this talk we will explore how previous efforts (Netfilter, BPF, OVS, TC) approached the problem of extensibility and present a solution where extending and merging some of the concepts inside OVS leads to a much more extensible framework to satisfy the networking needs of virtualization in datacenters and clouds.
