Media controller: finally getting audio and video to play together

*

One Line Summary

The Media Controller is a new kernel API designed to give applications full control over media devices through a single interface.

Abstract

As the video hardware available today push the Linux video API to its limits, the Video For Linux community got together during the Linux Plumbers Conference 2009 to draft an extension to the V4L subsystem called the Media Controller.

The Media Controller has been under development for nearly one year now, and allows userspace applications to discover and control media devices internals. Although written with V4L in mind, the API is not limited to V4L but aims at being useful for sound and display devices as well.

This micro-conference will present the Media Controller concept and will gather feedback from the audio subsystem developers on how to make the API suitable for their needs.
